Beauty beyond BeautyThe Tradition of Echizen Ware
越前焼は日本六古窯(越前・常滑・瀬戸・信楽・丹波・備前)の一つに数えられ、今から約850年前の平安時代末期に誕生しました。現在200基以上の窯跡が発見されており、かつては壷や甕、すり鉢などの日用雑器を主に製作していました。
越前で取れる、鉄分の多い土の特徴を生かした、素朴で温かみのある味わいが魅力で、今日でも多くの人に愛用されています。
近年では、時代に合わせた新たな作品も次々と産み出されています。
Echizen Ware is one of the Six Old Kilns of Japan (which includes pottery ware from Echizen, Tokoname, Seto, Shigaraki, Tanba and Bizen), born in the Heian period about 850 years ago. Up until today, more than 200 ancient kilns sites have been found and these sites were focused on the making of everyday items such as pots, vases and mortars.
Made from iron rich clay dug around Echizen, the wares are charming, rustic and warm beloved by all.
Even today, new items in line with the changing times are continuously created.

Your pottery journey begins in Echizen

陶芸体験を
A relaxing experience in the midst of nature
電動ロクロを使って湯呑やお茶碗など、
お好みの形の作品を作ることができます。
職人が丁寧に指導するので
初めての方でも安心して体験していただけます。
仕上がりの釉薬は白・黒・灰かけの中から一つを指定できます。
Participants are able to create cups, bowls or any shape of pottery using an electric spinning wheel.
With the guidance and assistance of experience potters, even first timers’ are able to enjoy the experience.
Finishing touches can be chosen from one of 3, white glaze, black glaze or by using traditional Echizen wood ash finish.
※出来上がりは約1ヶ月半〜2ヶ月程度かかります。The firing process to finish your work would take about 1 and a half to 2 months
※製作上の注意／焼き物は焼成時に収縮し、8割程度の大きさになります。
歪みや亀裂、破損する場合もございますのでご了承ください。*Caution: During the process of firing, items will shrink to about 80% of their pre-firing size. And in some cases distortions, cracks and breaks might occur
